Non-Lucrative Visa for Financially Independent Applicants

1. How long does the Non-Lucrative Visa last?

 The initial visa allows you to live in Spain for 1 year. After that, it can be renewed for 2 years, and again for another 2 years. After completing these periods, you may apply for permanent residency.

The application must be submitted at the Spanish consulate in the applicant’s country of origin and includes:

  • Visa application form • Recent passport-size photo
  • Valid passport
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Proof of private health insurance
  • Medical certificate
  • Proof of financial means (detailed and clearly documented)

The renewal must be submitted between 60 days before and 90 days after the expiration date. Requirements are similar to the initial application, but you must prove sufficient funds for a 2-year period and had been tax resident.

Applications may be refused for various reasons. If your application is denied, consult an immigration professional to identify the cause and prepare a response or appeal.
